A COMPLEX PROBLEM
What is Dry Eye Disease?
Dry eye disease occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears to supply necessary nourishment and lubrication or produce tears that do not have the proper chemical composition. This condition can also result from problems or imbalances with the oil, mucus, or water layer of the tear film. Dry eye may cause various symptoms, including dryness, irritation, redness, excessive tearing, inflammation, sensitivity, itchiness, burning, crusty or gunky eyes, and a gritty or pasty feeling in the eyelids.
Symptoms of Dry Eye Disease
Dry eye can cause various symptoms that severely affect the quality of life, including dryness, irritation, redness, excessive tearing, inflammation, sensitivity, itchiness, burning, crusty or gunky eyes, and a gritty or pasty feeling in the eyelids. If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s essential to seek treatment from a specialized dry eye clinic like ours.
Understanding the Quality and Quantity of the Tear Film
Tear Film Assessment
At our clinic, we utilize the OCULUS Keratograph 5M to measure the quality and stability of the tear film. This allows us to assess the tear film break-up time and evaluate the quantity of the tear film by measuring the tear meniscus height.
The lipid layer is an essential component of the tear film that protects tears from fast evaporation. A healthy and thick lipid layer is colorful, and if there isn’t enough lipid, vision and comfort can be compromised. The Keratograph 5M can document a video of the oily layer of the tear film to assess its quality.
Meibomian glands produce complex oils that stabilize the tear film and prevent tear evaporation. Dysfunction of these glands can cause dry eye. Our optometrists use the advanced features of the Keratograph 5M to assess the health of your meibomian glands directly and determine the best possible treatment plan.
Review and Treatment Planning
Assessing the quality and quantity of the tear film is an essential step in diagnosing and treating dry eye. At our clinic, we use the latest technology and expertise to provide personalized care and effective treatment plans for our patients. Trust us for specialized care that makes a difference.
Advanced Dry Eye Thearpy
LipiFlow is an advanced dry eye treatment that utilizes thermal pulsation technology to address the root cause of evaporative dry eye. This innovative procedure applies controlled heat to the inner eyelids, melting and removing any obstructions in the meibomian glands. At the same time, gentle pressure is applied to express the glands, allowing them to function correctly and produce the oils needed for a healthy tear film. LipiFlow is a safe and effective procedure that takes only 12 minutes per eye and provides long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for Dry Eyes is a cutting-edge treatment that uses light energy to address the underlying causes of dry eye. The procedure involves applying gentle pulses of light to the skin around the eyes, stimulating the meibomian glands and reducing inflammation. This leads to an improvement in the quality and quantity of the tears, providing relief from dry eye symptoms. IPL is a non-invasive and painless treatment that takes only a few minutes, with no downtime required. Many patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms after a few treatments, with results lasting up to several months. IPL for Dry Eyes is an excellent option for patients suffering from meibomian gland dysfunction and other forms of dry eye.
Radio Frequency (RF)
RF for Dry Eye is an advanced treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to provide long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms. This innovative technology gently heats the inner eyelids, stimulating the meibomian glands to produce the oils necessary for a healthy tear film. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is entirely painless. Many patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms after just one treatment, with results lasting up to a year or more. RF for Dry Eye is a safe and effective option for patients suffering from evaporative dry eye and can be used in combination with other treatments for maximum benefits.
